Lamplight AVL welcomes artists of all disciplines to The Residency at 821 for residencies of up to 28 days to create work and share it with our community.
The artists we host are not bound by any specific genre or discipline, but we are particularly interested in art that is experimental, contemporary, inter-disciplinary, unconventional, risk-taking, emerging, or non-market driven work. We are also very curious about an artist’s personal story as it relates to their work. As applicants create their proposals, we want to note that while we are open to public shows that incorporate some element of craft, we’ve found that work that seats itself firmly and exclusively in craft may better suited to the many wonderful crafts-focused institutions that Asheville offers.
All applications go through an internal approval process, which may take up to 21 days per application.
All artists-in-residence are required to share their work publicly with our community at some point during their stay in the form of a show, performance, installation, workshop, class, or other pre-approved form. Artists are also responsible for promoting the show they create, through flyers, social media posts, radio interviews, etc.
To apply, send an email with the subject line “Residency Application” to emily@lamplightavl.org including:
