Make a little house for a being of light. In this workshop, participants will create cocoon-like lampshades using colorful hanji, traditional Korean paper. Using brushes and Mod Podge, we’ll attach layers of hanji to prepared dome-shaped mesh forms. Each participant can choose their own colors and patterns, giving every small house its own character.
The finished shades will become part of houses for my lil beings, a collaborative hanging light installation. Inside each paper house, light will slowly brighten and dim, suggesting the breath of a tiny inhabitant. Together, our individually made houses will form a gathering of imagined beings.
The workshop introduces Hanji through a simple process of layering and gluing. Children and adults are welcome, and no previous art experience is needed.
Recommended for ages 6 and up. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No previous art experience is needed.
