Mark your calendars: the East-West Asheville Art Walk is back! This is an iterative neighborhood event organized by Lamplight AVL that welcomes art, music, performance, and community into the streets of East-West Asheville.

For the summer art walk, sixteen neighborhood businesses will host free arts-centered events, inviting the public to stroll between locations and experience the creative energy of the district.

Art Walks occur on a seasonal basis, and are free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to arrive anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. and stroll between the participating locations throughout the evening. Stay tuned for more details: we hope to see you at the Summer Walk!

Are you a visual artist looking to write poetry or a writer wanting to bring visual art into your writing? This two-part workshop answers this desire!

Workshop 1: June 13 from 2-4pm

Lamplight AVL 821 Haywood Rd Asheville NC 28806

Led by Keagan Wheat and Aliah Lavonne Jahan-Tigh, this generative creative writing workshop take the group through a writing prompt, and each participant will leave with a draft from each exercise. These drafts will be used in our following workshop to create an original chaplet.

Workshop 2: June 20 from 2-5pm

Lamplight AVL 821 Haywood Rd Asheville NC 28806

Keagan Wheat will lead a group of community participants through the process of making a chaplet out of a poem. We ask our participants to bring a short piece of their own writing (around 200 words or less, or work from our previous meeting is perfect) to create the chaplet. We’ll take time to illustrate our individual pieces using provided colored pencils, markers, crayons, and collage. Our last step will be binding the chaplet, so you’ll end up with a bound original chaplet.
