East-West Asheville Art Walks

Our first Art Walk this past April was the inaugural event for Lamplight Studios. This is an iterative neighborhood event organized by Lamplight AVL that welcomes art, music, performance, and community into the streets of East-West Asheville.

These Art Walks will continue on a seasonal basis, and are free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to arrive anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. and stroll between the participating locations throughout the evening. We hope to see you at the next walk!

Upcoming East-West Asheville Art Walks:

Summer Art Walk

Friday, July 10th, 5-8PM

The East-West Asheville Art Walk returns on Friday, July 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. This free community event brings art, music, performance, and creative exchange into neighborhood businesses, inviting the public to stroll between locations and experience the district’s vibrant artistic community.

Organized by Lamplight AVL, the Art Walk is an ongoing seasonal initiative that connects local artists, businesses, and community members through a shared evening of arts-centered programming. Participating businesses throughout East-West Asheville will host exhibitions, installations, performances, open studios, and interactive experiences, creating opportunities for visitors to engage with the creative energy of the neighborhood.

At Lamplight Studios, visitors are invited to explore the artists studios and meet resident artists including Zoie Reamer, Jess Spear of Housecat AVL, Jade and B Aster of Aster House, Olly Scarberry of Tiny Turtle Tattoo, Meghan Korol, Martha Skinner, Erin Brethauer and Tim Hussin of This Land Films, Alison Antaramian, and Sophie Hull. Charlie Boss and Laura Steenberge will perform music on the porch throughout the evening. Visitors are invited to interact with a large-scale sculpture by Alison Anteramian. During the first hour of the Art Walk, from 5 to 6 p.m., Aster House will offer solar viewing through a telescope in their studio space.

Former Lamplight resident Dawn Roe will present a selection of work from her recent residency at Lamplight’s residency space at 821 Haywood Road, featuring work from her newly forming body, Hydrofeminist Action Generator (H.A.G.), an amalgamation of practices reclaiming the hag as a revered figure and conduit between turbulent forms, gathering, rest, and resistance. Another former Lamplight resident, Ephemera House (Meg Mulhearn and David Lynch), will screen an ephemeral film installation in the studio classroom.

Elsewhere along the walk, Harvest Records will host an exhibition of work by July featured artist Shane Donaldson. Hot Stuff Tattoo will open its doors for visitors to browse artist portfolios and learn more about the studio’s work. Flora will present a floral installation featuring blooms and greenery sourced from local women-owned flower farms and Flora’s own flower fields in Candler, highlighting the natural beauty of the region.

Bagatelle Books will host experimental music by Lynn Fister of Farewell Phoenix behind the counter, while Remix It, Asheville’s newest nonprofit creative reuse center, will offer hands-on crafty fun for visitors throughout the evening. Eikon Gallery will showcase work by several local artists in a juried exhibition, accompanied by complimentary beer from local breweries and pastries from a local baker.

The Art Walk is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to arrive anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. and stroll between participating locations throughout the evening.
