The East-West Asheville Art Walk returns on Friday, October 2nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. This free community event brings art, music, performance, and creative exchange into neighborhood businesses, inviting the public to stroll between locations and experience the district’s vibrant artistic community.
Organized by Lamplight AVL, the Art Walk is an ongoing seasonal initiative that connects local artists, businesses, and community members through a shared evening of arts-centered programming. Participating businesses throughout East-West Asheville will host exhibitions, installations, performances, open studios, and interactive experiences, creating opportunities for visitors to engage with the creative energy of the neighborhood.
At Lamplight Studios, the evening will take inspiration from the season with a spooky harvest theme, with creative activities and experiences inside and out. Swannatopia returns to transform the Lamplight yard with outdoor décor for the event. At 7:00 Crow Rowlette will perform music on the porch. Lamplight resident Elizabeth Ivey will present a selection of work from her September Residency at Lamplight’s residency space at 821 Haywood Road. Decorated pumpkins can be brought to a judging booth to receive a ribbon prize. Ribbons will be available for all festive participators, pumpkins not required. A photobooth in the studio of Erin Brethauer and Alison Antaramian will offer visitors a chance to capture the evening, while Jess Spear of Housecat AVL will offer tarot readings in her studio. Alison Antaramian and Swannatopia will close the evening out with a short dance performance that everyone is invited to join.
Elsewhere along the walk, Harvest Records will host an exhibition of work by Sally Anne Morgan. Haunt will create a family-friendly haunted experience inspired by classic homemade Halloween traditions, with creepy sensory elements and playful surprises. Nice Time Glass will invite the public into its studio to watch live glassblowing. Make Noise will host a pre-Halloween bash where YOU play the songs of a ghost, create the sounds of a haunted house and get your photo with a skeleton.
Woodland Tattoo will offer small flash tattoos alongside a temporary tattoo table, inviting both adults and kids to see inside the studio and adorn themselves with real or pretend body art. Bagatelle Books will again host music while remaining open for visitors to browse the shop. ReMix It will host an open-ended upcycled craft activity using donated materials, and Eikon Gallery will showcase work by several local artists.
Period Nirvana will invite guests to share words or doodles about their first period for a community display in the store. Hot Stuff Tattoo will open its doors for visitors to browse artist portfolios and learn more about the studio’s work. Story Parlor will offer a glimpse into its listening room programming with music, poetry, and performance throughout the evening. Guests can enjoy a drink from the bar and browse the Story Bound Bookshop, which focuses on creativity, storytelling, and the narrative arts.
The Art Walk is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to arrive anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. and stroll between participating locations throughout the evening.
